Your vows are the promises that you’re making to each other

Reciting traditional wedding vows remains a popular choice for couples. For many people, they are words they've heard over the years at weddings, in movies and on television. Traditional does not necessarily mean religious, but some may contain religious content.

If you are looking for something fresh, Romantic and personal to promise each other, contemporary vows might be just right for you.

Keep in mind, that vows can be combined. You may choose one of the options from the traditional vows and add some contemporary language from the contemporary vows to create something that reflects your values and personalities.

1. Do you, _____________, take this woman/man, _______________, to be your wife/husband, according to God’s holy decree; do you promise to be to him/her a loving and loyal husband/wife, to cherish and keep her/him in sickness and in health; and, forsaking all others, to be faithful only to him/her as long as you both shall live?

   Answer: I do.

   I, _____________, take you, ______________, to be my wife/husband, according to God’s holy decree. To have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do we part: and to that I pledge you my faithfulness.

I further promise to love you without reservation, honour and respect you, provide for your needs as best I can, protect you from harm, comfort you in times of distress, grow with you in mind and spirit, always be open and honest with you, and cherish you for as long as we both shall live.
